Formed in early 2015, Copper Crown is a Toronto-based 5-piece ensemble. After spending months piecing together a refined sound, emanating from individual backgrounds in soul, punk, rock, ska and metal music, the band held their first show in their condemned jam house for a (now annual) Halloween bash, and proceeded to play shows all around Toronto and the GTA. The band recorded their debut EP over the winter months for release in the spring of 2016.
Copper Crown’s style is not easily defined beyond the broad label of “alternative rock”; the bandmates take pride in writing individual parts directed by their own, unique backgrounds in music, which results in a lot of surprising outcomes; such as the dancey ska rock tune “The Messenger” which has a hard rock breakdown, or the 50’s style crooner “Irene” and its unexpected punk rock interlude.
"While most bands are happy blending into the crowd, others try to blaze their own musical trail, only to fail miserably. Copper Crown is the exception, creating a truly unique listening experience which is nothing short of amazing, considering that this is their first release. It is usually easy for me to drawn comparisons to other bands when doing reviews, but with Copper Crown, I cannot... Copper Crown melds several styles of rock and ska in a way that feels natural and never forced." – Ska-BOOM.com
